POPE FRANCIS THANKS JOHOR SULTAN

Pope Francis has written to thank HM The Sultan of Johor for commuting the death sentences of three Mexican brothers who were set to be hanged for drug trafficking crimes.

The Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, conveyed the Pope’s gratitude in a letter which was hand delivered today (7th October) to His Majesty at Istana Pasir Pelangi, Johor Bahru by the diplomatic representative of the Holy See to Malaysia, Archbishop Joseph Salvador Marino.

“On behalf of His Holiness Pope Francis, I am writing to thank you for your act of clemency and subsequent help in the representation of three Mexicans sentenced to death.

“His Holiness prays that this act of compassion will be an encouragement for all people to renew their commitment to building a world marked by forgiveness, peace and a spirit of fraternal solidarity.

“Invoking upon Your Majesty and the members of the Royal Family an abundance of joy and peace. Pope Francis reiterates his profound gratitude,” said Cardinal Parolin in the letter.

POPE FRANCIS HARGAI SULTAN JOHOR MERINGANKAN HUKUMAN TIGA BERADIK WARGA MEXICO

DYMM Sultan Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar berkenan menerima mengadap Duta Besar Bandar Vatican Ke Malaysia, Archbishop Joseph Salvador Marino di Istana Pasir Pelangi, Johor Bahru hari ini (7 Oktober).

Pada pertemuan itu, Archbishop Marino mempersembahkan surat penghargaan daripada Pope Francis kepada DYMM Sultan Johor.

Pada tahun lalu, Baginda Tuanku Sultan berkenan meringankan hukuman gantung kepada hukuman penjara seumur hidup membabitkan tiga beradik warga Mexico atas kesalahan mengedar dadah.
